Here's a gift idea for Valentine's Day for those of you that like cooking. Now, I'm not the best cook and you can see how I did on my first try, but practice makes perfect! The recipe I'm sharing is the one the cookie-gun (I don't know the machine's actual name) brought when I bought it (with some modifications). The recipe was actually in German. I Google-translated it but some parts didn't make sense so I had to improvised a little. If you don't own a cookie-gun you can put teaspoon-sized scoops on the pan and it will work great too. :)

You'll need:

a. Cookie-gun

b. 1 egg

c. 200g Butter

d. 300g Flour (I added 1/2 cup more)

e. 100g Sugar (I added two more tablespoons)

* Red sugar crystals (for decoration)

Procedure:

Put all ingredients in a large bowl.
Using your hands, mix them together until you have an even dough.
Put some of the dough inside the cookie-gun and use it to make the cookies on an non-waxed pan.
(I added the sugar crystals before baking the cookies).
Bake the for 10-12min at 350°.
Take them off the pan and let them cool (about 5min).

Les dejo con una idea para regalar este Día del Cariño para aquellos que les gusta cocinar. No es que sea un cocinero experto y lo pueden ver en mi primer intento de hacer estas galletas, pero la práctica hace al maestro! La receta que les comparto es la que traía la pistola de galletas (no se el verdadero nombre de la máquina) cuando la compré (con algunas modificaciones). Originalmente la receta estaba en alemán. La traduje utilizando el traductor de Google pero algunas partes no tenían sentido así que que improvisé un poco. Si no tienen una pistola de galletas pueden hacerlas colocando cucharaditas de masa en una bandeja y funciona muy bien. :)

Van a necesitar:

a. Pistola de galletas

b. 1 huevo

c. 200g Mantequilla

d. 300g Harina (I added 1/2 cup more)

e. 100g Azucar (I added two more tablespoons)

* Cristales de azúcar rojos (para decoración)

Preparación:

Colocar todos los ingredientes en un recipiente.
Amasar a mano con firmeza hasta que la masa este pareja.
Colocar un poco de la masa en la pistola de galletas y úsala para hacer las galletas en una bandeja sin engrasar.
(Yo agregué los cristales de azúcar antes de hornear las galletas).
Hornear de 10-12min a 350º.
Quítalas de la bandeja y déjalas enfriar (5min aprox.)

Lazy Day

We all have days were we don't feel like wearing tight jeans but just a comfy sweater. I bought this sweater for the holidays and I love how comfortable it is. Its warm and the fabric makes you feel like you're still wearing pajamas. Even though I had classes this day, it was so cold I felt like doing nothing all day. I shot the photos in my bedroom so now you finally know what it looks like! I have an obsession with Disney (who doesn't?) and couldn't help but use Mickey plushes as decoration for my room. Besides my Mickey's, one of my favorite things in my room is the Coke bottle filled with Legos. The randomness of it is what makes it such a special piece to my room's decoration. Todos tenemos de esos días en los que no queremos usar pantalones ajustados sino solo un suéter flojo y cómodo. Compré este suéter para las fiestas del año pasado y amo lo cómodo que es. La tela me mantiene caliente y me hace sentir como si estuviera en pijamas todo el día. A pesar de que este día tuve clases, fue un día frío y no tuve ganas de hacer nada todo el día. Tomé las fotos en mi cuarto para que puedan saber como es! Tengo una obsesión con Disney (¿quién no?) y no me pude resistir de usara peluches de Mickey como parte de la decoración de mi cuarto. A parte de mis Mickey's, una de mis cosas favoritas en mi cuarto es la botella de Coca-Cola la cual llené con Legos. Lo inusual de ella es lo que la hace una pieza especial entre la decoración de mi cuarto. Tienen algún objeto especial en su cuarto? O quizá una obsesión con algún personaje? Squirrel Hunt

Well that happened to me yesterday and came up to this video of Kristen Bell having a meltdown over a sloth for her birthday. I got so caught up watching it I felt like a sloth was coming near me too. Thats when I turned around at the window and saw a squirrel staring at me! It scared the crap out of me and I almost had a meltdown just like Kristen.

After putting myself together I decided to go on a squirrel hunt and shoot a couple of them, shoot a couple of photos that is. I spent about half an hour looking for squirrels with no luck at all. I got a couple of shoots where you can barely see it but on the other side I got some of a bird that was hanging around in the garden as well.

Couldn't help myself.

A ustedes les ha pasado que un link los lleva a otro y ese otro a otro más y después de 15min tienen 87456287634 taba abiertas y cuando vuelven a regresar a la primera piensas "Ahh! Cierto, estaba haciendo mis tareas!" Bueno eso me pasó ayer y terminé en este video donde Kristen Bell tiene un colapso emocional por el perezoso que recibió por su cumpleaños. El video captó tanto mi atención que empecé a sentir la presencia de un perezoso cerca de mi también. Ahí fue cuando voltee hacia la ventana y vi una ardilla viendome! Me asustó como no tienen idea y casi empiezo a tener un colapso emocional como el de Kristen.

Después de recuperar la cordura decidí ir a cazar ardillas y tomar algunas fotos de ellas. Pasé como media hora buscando ardillas en mi jardín, incluso el jardinero se ofreció a ayudarme con mi misión, pero ninguno tuvo suerte. Tomé algunas fotografías en las que apenas se puede ver una ardilla corriendo entre las ramas. Por otro lado, le tomé fotos a un pajarito que paseaba por el jardín también.

Tienen un animal favorito? Uno por el cual puedan tener un colapso emocional?

Famous for a Day!

Last thursday, my sister and I were hanging out at Starbucks when a girl and a guy approached us to ask if they could take some photos of us for an article they were working on. We never thought we would end up in the front page! Read more after the jump >>

They told us it was a casting for an article about movie theaters they might publish on friday. Not being to convinced about the whole thing we said yes anyway (I told my sister it would be a great story to share with you on our blogs). We went to the movie theater at the mall and we got to pose at the VIP and the normal areas. The props for the photoshoot were loads of food and candies (popcorn, chocolates, sandwiches, etc!). The shoot went on for about an hour, after we finished we said goodbye and went on our way.

On friday, we wanted to get a copy of the news paper (Publinews by Metro International) to check if they did run the article. Before we could get a copy, I got a call from my cousin telling me we were on the front page! We were shocked because we weren't sure they would even publish the article and when we finally got our copy we saw that not only we were on the front page, but our photo was the biggest one on it! We got calls and text from our friends and family all day long. All our family got to work and collected a lot of copies for us to keep. This was my first time on a newspaper, hopefully one day I get to be there for an article about me and my work. :)

El jueves pasado, mi hermana y yo estábamos pasando el tiempo en Starbucks cuando hombre y una mujer se nos acercaron preguntado si podían tomarnos unas fotografías para un articulo en cual estaban trabajando. Nunca pensamos que íbamos a terminar saliendo en primera plana!

Nos dijeron que hacían un casting para un artículo acerca del cine que talvez publicaban el viernes. Sin estar convencidos, accedimos a tomarnos las fotos (le dije a mi hermana que sería una buena historia que contarles en nuestros blogs). Nos dirigimos a los cines del centro comercial y posamos en las salas VIP y las salas normales. Los props para la sesión de fotos fueron cantidades excesivas de comida (poporopos, chocolates, sandwiches, etc!). La sesión de fotos duró como una hora, después de que terminamos nos despedimos y nos fuimos.

El viernes, queríamos una copia del periódico (Publinews de Metro International) para revisar si se había publicado la historia. Antes de que pudiéramos conseguirlo, recibí una llamada de mi primo contándome que salimos en primera plana! Estábamos suspendidos ya que no estábamos seguros si se iba a publicar el artículo y cuando conseguimos una copia de la edición descubrimos que no solo estábamos en la portada, sino también éramos la fotografía del articulo principal! Todo el día recibimos llamadas de nuestra familia y amigos. Toda nuestra familia recolecto muchas copias para que las pudiéramos guardar como recuerdo. Esta es la primera vez que aparezco en un periódico, espero que algún día pueda salir otra vez en un artículo acerca de mí y mi trabajo. :)

I got this jacket a few weeks ago and it has become one of my favorite pieces in my closet. I think is its biker look that I like about it the most. I went for a relaxed look and wore it on top of my DIY v-neck and a pair of sneakers. I think this is a great outfit to wear on a daily basis. Jeans, t·shirt, and sneakers are always a great combo, you can wear it with a sweater of a blazer to dress it up a bit. What's you everyday outfit like? Let me know leaving a comment below. :)

Compré esta chaqueta hace algunas semanas y se ha vuelto una de mis prendas favoritas en mi closet. Creo que es su estilo de motorista lo que más me gusta de ella. Para este look tomé un estilo relajado y utilicé la chaqueta encima de mi camisa "hazla-tu-mismo" y un par de tenis. Creo que este es un look apropiado para usarlo todos los días. Jeans, camisa y tenis son una gran combinación, puedes ponerte encima un suéter o un blazer para volverlo un look más formal. Cual es tu look diario favorito? Dime con un comentario abajo. :)

DIY · Instagram T·shirt

This Do It Yourself is pretty simple and it gives you the chance to show off some of the hundreds of photos you take with you cellphone camera!

You'll need:

Cellphone (or iPod) with Instagram (or any other photo).
Computer
T·shirt transfer paper
Printer
Scissors
Newspaper and white sheets of paper.
Iron
White t·shirt (I used a plain white, v-neck t·shirt)

How to:

Take photos with your cellphone or iPod. Take as many as you want until you have enough to choose from.
Import the photos to your computer.
Adjust the size of the photos. You can do it using Photoshop, Illustrator or even Word if it's easier for you that way. (I adjust them to 1.25 inches approximately).
Print the photos using the transfer paper.
Cut the photos separately.
Use the newspaper to protect a table or other flat area (I used 15 pages) and the white paper on top of it.
Put the shirt on top of the pile of paper.
Arrange the photos over the shirt (remember that they have to be upside down for you to iron them).
Iron the photos, to do so, make sure you read the instruction manual the transfer paper brings along.
Wait for it to cool down (approximately 5min).
Peel the protective paper and your done!

You can try this with different photos, sizes, and different ways to arrange the photos. So get creative! :)

Este Hazlo Tú Mismo es bastante sencillo y te da la oportunidad de lucir algunas de las miles fotografías que tomas con tu celular!

Necesitas:

Celular (o iPod) con Instragram (o cualquier otra fotografía)
Computadora
Papel para transferir a t·shirt (tela)
Impresora
Tijeras
Papel periódico y hojas en blanco
Plancha
Camisa blanca (yo utilicé una camisa blanca con cuello V)

Cómo hacerlo:

Toma las fotos con tu celular o iPod. Toma todas las que quieras, hasta que tengas varias de donde escoger.
Importa las fotos a tu computadora.
Ajusta el tamaño. Puedes hacerlo en Photoshop, Illustrator o incluso en word si te es más fácil. (Yo las puse de 1.25 pulgadas aproximadamente.)
Imprime las fotografias utilizando papel especial para transferir a camisetas.
Recorta las fotos por separado.
Coloca el papel periódico como protección sobre una mesa o área plana (yo utilicé 15 hojas) y en la parte superior hojas en blanco.
Extiende sobre las hojas la camisa.
Coloca las fotos en el lugar que deseas (recuerda que para plancharlas deben estar con la foto viendo a la camisa).
Plánchalas, para eso asegúrate de leer las instrucciones que trae el paquete de hojas.
Espera que enfrie el papel (aproximadamente 5min).
Quita el papel protector y listo!

Puedes probar esto con diferentes fotos, tamaños y diferentes maneras de colocar las fotografías. Así que usa tu creatividad! :)

Paper Dolls

One of my childhood obsessions were paper dolls. I used to collect paper dolls from my favorite movies, I even had a Batman set. I really like being able to change the outfit of my favorite characters and recreate the movie (with a few changes to the script I thought convenient). When I grew older I figured why not make my own character and make whatever costumes I could come up with! And as a result, Teddy was born.

Teddy is a cartoon bear I drew for a comic back in high school. I spent winter vacations drawing all the costumes I could think of for every movie I wanted him to star. At the end I ended up with costumes like jungle explorer, James Bond, soccer player, astronaut, eskimo, chef, and even Easter Bunny.

I've been keeping Teddy for years now and last week he came in handy. We were assigned to create a stop-motion video and he served us (my friends and I) as the videos protagonist. This is what we came up with.

Song is Rumpus Reprise by Karen O. and the Kids for Where the Wild Things Are soundtrack.

Una de mis obsesiones de mi niñez fueron los paper dolls. Coleccionaba los de mis películas favoritas, incluso tuve un set de Batman. Me gustaba mucho poder cambiarles de ropa a mis personajes favoritos y recrear las películas (con algunos cambios en la historia). Cuando crecí decidí que era tiempo de que probara dibujar mi propio personaje y hacerle todos los disfraces que se me pudieran ocurrir! Como resultado, nació Teddy.

Teddy es un oso de caricatura que dibujé para un cómic cuando estuve en secundaria. Esas vacaciones me la pasé dibujando todos los disfraces de todas las películas en las que quería que Teddy estuviera. Al final terminé con disfraces como explorador de la jungla, jugador de fútbol, James Bond, astronauta, esquimal, chef e incluso el conejo de pascua.

He guardado a Teddy por varios años y la semana pasada me resultó útil. Como trabajo para la universidad tuvimos que filmar un video en stop-motion y Teddy fue el protagonista. Este video es el resultado de nuestro trabajo.

Favorite Place

For this post I wanted to take you to one of my favorite places at home, our outdoor dinning. I love coming out here to eat, work, read, get inspired or just relax. What it's great about this place is that you can find lots of colors and shapes to get inspiration for anything you need.

Now, about this look, mint has appeared in almost every spring editorial and lookbook I've seen for the past months, so I thought I needed to include a piece in my wardrobe and when I this polo shirt I just knew it was just what I needed. What other colors do you think are a most this season?

Finally! My first (formal) post. It's been a long since I wanted to start a blog of my own and now it is finally up and running!

My name is Rodrigo Zepeda, I'm a Graphic Design student and style fanatic. Ever since I watched Julie & Julia I wanted to start writing a blog, even though I didn't know what about. Going through several blogs looking for inspiration, I realized the ones I enjoy reading the most are fashion and style blogs. Clothes, colors, trends, photography, magazines, everything about fashion I find it interesting. That's why I thought it was appropriate for this blog to be about what I'm the most passionate about, style.

You might be wondering why I chose Beyond Blank as the name for the blog, well here's a brief explanation. My vision for this blog is for it to be not only about clothes, I plan on sharing several things with you that I hope you'll find interesting to read and maybe try out. After brainstorming for several days (yeah, you read that right, days) with my sister, we came up with the name Beyond Blank because that described perfectly what this blog is, a blank canvas for me to fill up for you with fashion, style, and beyond. So feel free to follow this blog :)

Por fin! Mi primer post (formal). Hace un largo tiempo que he querido empezar un blog y ya puedo decir que esta habilitado!

Mi nombre es Rodrigo Zepeda, soy estudiante de Diseño Gráfico y fanático del estilo. Desde que vi Julie & Julia he querido empezar mi propio blog, a pesar de que no tenía claro de qué podría tratar. Revisando y buscando varios blogs para inspiración, llegué a darme cuenta que los que más disfruto leer y revisar a diario son blogs de moda y estilo. La ropa, colores, tendencias, fotografía, revistas, todo acerca de la moda lo encuentro interesante. Por eso creo apropiado que este blog sea acerca de lo que más me apasiona, el estilo.

Se preguntarán por qué escogí Beyond Blank como nombre, les comparto una breve explicación. Mi visión para este blog es que no sea únicamente de ropa, tengo pensado compartir acerca de varias cosas que crea que les pueden interesar y incluso las puedan intentar hacer. Después de varios días de brainstorming (sí, leyeron bien, días) con mi hermana, se nos ocurrió Beyond Blank porque eso describe a la perfección lo que es este blog, un lienzo en blanco para que llene para ustedes con moda, estilo y más allá de eso. Así que los invito a seguir este blog :)
